Eyeglass Size Guide: How to Choose the Perfect Fit
Choosing the right size of glasses is essential to ensure comfort, stability and a harmonious look. Glasses that are too large could slip from the face, while glasses that are too small could be uncomfortable and poorly proportioned.
In this guide we explain how to read the measurements of glasses, find the perfect size for your face and choose the ideal frame for you.
How to Read Eyeglass Sizes: What Do the Numbers Mean?
Each pair of glasses has specific measurements that you can find engraved on the inside of the temple or bridge. These numbers are essential to understand the size of the frame and ensure that the model chosen is suitable for your needs.
Example of numbers engraved on a frame:
👉 50□18-140
These numbers indicate:
- Lens Width (50mm) – Measures the horizontal dimension of each lens.
- Bridge width (18 mm) – Indicates the distance between the two lenses, i.e. the part that rests on the nose.
- Temple length (140 mm) – This is the measurement of the temple from the glasses to the ear.
Knowing these measurements will help you choose sunglasses and eyeglasses that perfectly fit your body shape.
What is the right size for your face?
Glasses are classified into three size categories , based on the width of the lenses:
✔ Size S (small) → Lenses up to 50mm , suitable for small and narrow faces.
✔ Size M (Medium) → Lenses between 51mm and 54mm , perfect for most faces.
✔ Size L (large) → Lenses over 55mm , ideal for wide faces or those who love oversized glasses.
If you already have a pair of glasses that fit you well, simply check the measurements engraved on the inside of the temple and choose a model with similar characteristics.
How to Measure Your Face to Find the Perfect Fit
If you don't know your measurement, you can determine it with a simple test:
1️⃣ Take a ruler or a soft tape measure and measure the distance between the two temples, from one side of the face to the other.
2️⃣ Compare the measurement with the following table :
- Less than 129mm → Size S
- Between 130 mm and 139 mm → Size M
- More than 140 mm → Size L
If you're between sizes, go with the larger size for more comfort.
Sunglasses and eyeglasses: the differences in fit
Sunglasses tend to have slightly larger frames than prescription glasses , to provide more coverage from the sun's rays. However, the size guide remains the same: always check the frame measurements to make sure the style you choose is right for you.
